Thomas A. Picone was a founding member of The Michael J. Fox Foundation Patient Council and a leader in the pharmaceutical industry. Diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2006, Tom passed away in October 2015 at 61. Tom contributed strategic insight to the Foundation in its work to amplify the patient voice in research, translate the drug development process for patients and families and empower and engage the PD community. Tom spent 30 years in drug development, most recently at Schering Plough, and held a PhD in biochemistry. His leadership was vital to securing the partnership of key industry players for Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative, a landmark MJFF clinical study launched in 2010 for the purpose of discovering and validating risk factors for Parkinson's disease.
